Pros and cons of Elgato Avea app for iPhone and iPad

Elgato Avea app good for

Quality: The apps instantly linked my 6 bluetooth light bulb, no waiting or searching endlessly. The bulb are still connected since launch (It has been 2 weeks now) and no connection error occured. The app is simple. You choose a color (or a theme) then choose bulbs for that color. The color remembers wich bulb were associated with them, so its easy to setup more than 1 room, even though it seems upside down. I hesitated between 4 and 5 stars. I finally choose 5 because the only "downside" would be the simplicity of the app, but there is enough option to control bulb and thats what I wanted with the bulb.
Great App for a great product. Everything works properly and as advertised. Will give 5 stars if Elgatos next update includes more scenes and/or the ability to make our own transitions. Wake up light should make better use of colors to simulate a real colourful sunrise. Not just plain white light.
We should have the possibility to create our own color transitions, not only the presets. Wake up timer should use the colors to simulate real sunrise, not only white light! Should be easy enough to program... Do it for next update please!
I would love to see the nottifications widget that would be so amazing

Some bad moments

This app need widget! Is not an option, is a necessity! Please add a widget
Who knew playing with...lightbulb(s) could be this much fun lol. Yea u need an Avea lightbulb, about 30-40 bucks LED low energy bulb. Just put it in any ordinary lamp you got around. Itll communicate via Bluetooth (built into the lightbulb) with your iDevice. Its able to produce quite a lot of colors, at various brightness. You can even combine multiple lamps for various color patterns, or control them separately like more regular lamps w. dimmers etc. Fun, relaxing, a small taste of that "future" smart house no one actually lives in.
This app and the lightbulb that goes with it are great. Its nice that it connects via Bluetooth and doesnt need a wifi hub like the Hue and other products out there right now. The scenes provided are pretty cool. But, I do have some issues/suggestions. 1. Sometimes randomly the bulb will disconnect and not be discoverable. The only way to resolve it is to unplug the bulb and plug it back in. Not a big deal, but is annoying. 2. I would be nice to have more granular control over the solid colors. The few colors provided do not allow for the control I would like. Maybe a color wheel type selector like you find within OS X? Something to tap and drag your finger around to find just the color you want. 3. Like I mentioned, the scenes are pretty cool. Maybe offer more of those? Overall Im pretty happy with this app and the purchase. Thanks!
I love this bulb! From the moment I read about it on the blogs I knew I had to have it. I waited and waited and checked the order page and managed to get the bulb the first day it went on sale. Ive had it since and its been great. Its a great alternative to the Phillips hue lights... The Bluetooth is usually reliable and the few times Ive had trouble a simple unplug has been enough to resolve my issue. I love the app with this product as well. It does a great job at capturing cool scenes. I do however feel it could offer more control over the bulb than just colors. A self timer would be fantastic, say turn off in 30minutes sort of thing. I would also love the ability to create my own scenes, sequence color changes, or do strobe style effects. Ive even seen some other bulbs do things like flash certain colors if you have any notifications. Maybe it was done through IFTT? Anyways ultimately I love the device just wish I had more control but who knows if well see that in the coming time, when it happens it will elevate this product tremendously.
Really cool bulb at a very affordable rate, will definitely be buying more! However I feel it could use iOS 8 Notification Center integration for 3rd party apps, it would be awesome to just slide down the menu anywhere and have the option to turn on/off. Other than that no complaints!
Compared to other offerings, Avea is an outstanding value. I have found, however that the bulb tends toward the cool side of the color spectrum. "White" looks like a fluorescent light - even when tuned as warm as it will go. I was hoping the software would allow me to tune just about any color in the spectrum but, instead, your are limited to a handful of preset colors. Also, the software has no schedule feature other than the Wake-up setting that allows you to set the light to turn on at a predetermined time (but no setting to turn the lamp off).
